Oleksandr Usyk is arguably past his prime at age 37, despite the fact he currently reigns as heavyweight world champion.

While still clearly one of the top boxers on the planet, many believe Usyk's best days actually came when he ruled the cruiserweight division in his early 30s.

Usyk won his first world title by dethroning Poland's Krzysztof Glowacki in Poland in 2016.

He then went to America and made two defences - the second of which came against Michael Hunter in April 2017.

Hunter is himself an intelligent technical boxer, but was outclassed by the elite Usyk.

The Ukrainian was at his brilliant best in the final round when he remarkably upped his tempo.

After 11 taxing rounds, Usyk rose to another level in the twelfth and dominated the final three minutes.

He smashed a knackered Hunter around the ring and scored a knockdown as the referee ruled that the ropes kept the American on his feet.

In an interesting twist, broadcaster HBO had a rare referee-cam for the fight.

The footage shows just how relentless Usyk was when pursuing a stoppage.

Ultimately, though, it didn't come and he won by unanimous decision instead.

Usyk would later go on to enter the World Boxing Super Series cruiserweight tournament in 2017.

He unified the division by beating Mairis Briedis and became undisputed king in 2018 as he outclassed Murat Gassiev to emerge with all four belts in the division as WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO world champion.

This was a phenomenal achievement, especially when considering Usyk travelled to most of his opponents' countries and beat them on away soil.

Usyk next moved up to heavyweight and beat Anthony Joshua twice in 2021 and 2022 to emerge as WBA, IBF and WBO world champion.

On May 18, he will face Tyson Fury and attempt to replicate his achievements at cruiserweight and become the undisputed king in his new division.

The winner will become the first heavyweight champion to hold all the titles since Lennox Lewis in 1999 and the first in the four-belt era.
