Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez claimed he's back to his best following his win over Jermell Charlo and now will look to prove it this evening.

The undisputed super-middleweight (168lbs) world champion dominated Iron Man in September during his last outing in the ring.

Canelo dropped Charlo in round seven on his way to a unanimous decision victory in Las Vegas.

The 33-year-old looked unstoppable between 2019 and 2021 before a shock defeat to Dmitry Bivol at light-heavyweight last year.

Boxing's former undisputed pound-for-pound king has since looked to rubbish talk of his declining skills in recent performances.

Before beating Charlo, Canelo had overcome John Ryder and secured a trilogy triumph over Gennady Golovkin.

Canelo Alvarez next fight: Is his opponent confirmed?

Yes, Canelo's next clash has been confirmed.

The Guadalajara-born fighter will defend his undisputed super-middleweight titles on Cinco De Mayo weekend.

Canelo will battle fellow countryman Jaime Munguia on May 4.

Boxing fans had hoped to see Canelo vs David Benavidez but a fight was unable to be made leaving Munguia as the next-best opponent.

Munguia is undefeated in 43 fights, with 34 KOs and his most recent win being when he finished Canelo's former foe Ryder in January.

Munguia is one of the top contenders in the division, having previously been a world champion at super-welterweight.

As well as his victory over Ryder, he also holds a solid win at super-middleweight over Sergiy Derevyanchenko.

Interestingly, Munguia is also co-promoted by Oscar De La Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions - who famously repped Canelo until a bitter split in 2020.

Canelo vs Munguia: What has been said?

De La Hoya believes a 'changing of the guard' will happen when Canelo faces his fighter Munguia.

The 51-year-old said: “He is ready right now. He is positioned right now. This is his moment. This could be the changing of the guard on Cinco de Mayo.

“It’s all about footwork because you have a guy [Canelo], who is 33, and you have a younger guy [Munguia].

"So, obviously, his legs are fresher. He can take a punch better, although Canelo does have a good chin.

"But when you have all that wear and tear under your belts, the armour tends to bend a little at that stage."
